Generally, girls and boys are treated differently and expected to behave in distinct ways. It affects children that there is an appropriate way for each gender to act. It is no surprise that pre-school children learn to identify with their gender so young, especially as parents and friends give children toys associated with their gender early on. Different types of toys give different messages about what is appropriate for boys and girls to do, and have different educational content. It can have lasting impacts on their lives. Break the Norm is a fun activity for children to revise the gender stereotypes that they have and help reduce gender bias in early childhood.

This concept was inspired by children’s activities. The flashcards and the flipbook will help children to learn about gender-neutral and bias-free language. It also will encourage children to open all roads for their dreams and goals, regardless of gender.
